San Francisco 49ers Can’t Afford Joey Bosa in 2026 Free Agency

The San Francisco 49ers have been able to make some intriguing roster decisions over the course of the 2026 NFL offseason. They have made some interesting decisions by signing wide receiver Mike Evans and still discussing a way to keep offensive tackle Trent Williams. However, one remaining free agent could be waiting for a contract offer. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and what was said about the possibility of it happening.

One of the talking points for the San Francisco 49ers this offseason was the potential of signing Joey Bosa to the team. They already have Nick Bosa under contract, so adding his brother to help rush the quarterback would be a dream come true. On social media, Bosa’s mother shared a fake image of the two Bosa brothers wearing San Francisco 49ers jerseys. However, general manager John Lynh essentially shot down the possibility of this happening on Sunday.

“I know Mama Bosa would love that, but I don’t know if we can afford him.”

The five-time Pro Bowler played 15 games for the Buffalo Bills last season. He led the league with five forced fumbles as well as five sacks, 16 quarterback hits, and a pair of pass deflections. The 49ers currently have a little more than $31 million in available cap space, per Over the Cap.

There is a chance that this will be the final big contract he will be offered. It is unclear what offers Bosa has on the table right now, if any. As one of the top remaining available free agents, it will be intriguing to see where Joey Bosa winds up playing in 2026.
