The Football Association have released a statement confirming the withdrawal of eight players from the England squad, including one from Newcastle United.

Ramsdale was an unused substitute for England’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay at Wembley Stadium on Friday and withdraws from the squad ahead of Tuesday’s second friendly match against Japan.

The goalkeeper was one of six Newcastle players called up to the England squad this international break. Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon joined up with the England squad on Friday and will be involved in the Japan match, having sat out the clash against Uruguay.

Tino Livramento played the full match against Uruguay while Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes came on as second-half substitutes.

FA statement confirms withdrawal of NUFC player from England squad

On Sunday, the FA released a statement confirming Ramsdale as one of eight players leaving the England camp along with AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, Leeds’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Manchester City’s John Stones, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Arsenal trio Noni Madueke, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

“A revised England squad of 27 players are preparing for Tuesday’s fixture with Japan at Wembley Stadium,” the statement read. “In total, eight players are due to leave camp, including Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“John Stones is returning to Manchester City for assessment after picking up an issue in training prior to Friday night’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Arsenal’s Noni Madueke have gone back to their clubs with knocks picked up during the match.

“Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will also return to Arsenal for medical assessment, having arrived on Friday along with nine other players. The rest of that group comprised of Dean Henderson, Nico O’Reilly, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guéhi, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane.”
