England are working out their final squad for the World Cup this summer, with manager Thomas Tuchel having taken the unusual step of naming a 35 man initial group for the friendly game against Uruguay on Friday, before trimming it down to 25 for the final week of the camp.

Terrible injury timing for Chalobah puts World Cup dream at risk

One person who isn’t in either group is Trevoh Chalobah, despite having finally worked his way into the picture under Tuchel. In a piece of truly brutal bad luck, the Chelsea man got a nasty ankle injury against PSG a couple of weeks ago.

It’s such a pity for the fan favourite. Tuchel gave him his club debut and really trusts him, but this injury came at the worst time for him. He can still earn his place in the squad back, but it feels hard to force his way into the starting XI now.

As you can see from WhoScored’s Tweet above, in terms of Premier League form he should be starting alongside Marc Guehi for the Three Lions.

Chalobah’s own social media page has given the best clue so far about a potential return, with the defender already back on the bike machine, albeit in a protective boot.
