Gabriel Jesus now seems certain to leave Arsenal in the summer, with Kai Havertz making clear his desire to stay at the club.
The fate of the two players in the transfer market has become linked, and with the Gunners now looking to sign another forward when the window opens again, somebody has to go to make way.
And although both players have struggled to find form again after recovering from long-term injuries, Havertz is regarded as having the longer-term future at the Emirates.
The German also offers more versatility as he can also play in an advance midfield role, and whilst Jesus can operate wide, Arsenal have better options in those areas.
Jesus was previously linked with a return to Brazil and Palmeiras in January, and it would be no surprise if they were to revive their interest once alerted to his potential availability.
