Mikel encouraged to bring impressive playmaker to Arsenal:‘Arteta will already know that this boy will be a star’

Former Owen Hargreaves has encouraged Arsenal to pursue a summer move for Nico Paz, amid growing attention around the Como playmaker’s performances in Italy.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the standout young talents in Serie A this season, thriving under the guidance of Cesc Fàbregas at Como. Paz has contributed double-digit goals across competitions and continues to build his reputation ahead of a potential appearance for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking recently, Hargreaves highlighted Paz as an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s side, likening the opportunity to *ARSENAL*’s successful acquisition of Martin Ødegaard from Real Madrid. He described the Argentine as a “star in the making” and urged the club to act decisively in the transfer market

Asked about possible Arsenal summer signings, Hargreaves said on TNT Sports: ‘There’s a young lad at Como, Nico Paz. There’s an option for him to go back to Real Madrid but if I’m Arsenal…

‘This kid – you’ll see him at the World Cup. Mikel Arteta will already know that this boy will be a star and if you don’t ask you don’t get. A player like that could suit Arsenal.’

However, any potential deal may be complicated by Real Madrid, who retain favourable clauses over Paz, including a buy-back option and matching rights. This could limit Arsenal’s chances of securing the player, particularly if Madrid opt to bring him back as part of their long-term plans.

Do Arsenal need a new striker?

While Paz is not a traditional centre-forward, the conversation inevitably feeds into *ARSENAL*’s broader attacking needs. The Gunners have built a fluid, dynamic system under Arteta, often relying on interchanging forwards rather than a fixed No.9. Yet, in high-stakes matches, a lack of a clinical, out-and-out striker has occasionally been exposed.

Adding a player like Paz would enhance creativity between the lines, but it would not fully address the need for a reliable goalscorer. Arsenal have been linked with established strikers, and that reflects a recognition that squad depth alone is not enough—efficiency in front of goal is crucial for title-winning sides.

That said, modern football increasingly values multifunctional attackers. If Paz were signed, he could contribute goals from midfield while complementing existing forwards such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The key question is balance: Arsenal may not need a traditional striker if they can spread goals across the team—but history suggests having one can make the difference in decisive moments.

In that context, Paz would represent an exciting addition, but likely not the complete solution to *ARSENAL*’s attacking puzzle.
