Signing Crystal Palace star is ‘simplest option’ – Alternative to Manchester City player

Manchester City star Rodri and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are on Real Madrid’s agenda for the summer.

The La Liga side are focusing on bringing in a midfielder who will significantly raise their level.

Therefore, Real Madrid are looking for options in the market and have the Manchester City and Crystal Palace players in their list.

The Spain international knows the league from his time at Villarreal and Atlético Madrid. He’s also said the past connection with Los Rojiblancos won’t be an issue to join their local rivals.

Crystal Palace player alternative to Rodri

Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo looks at both Rodri and Adam Wharton and covers the latest.

Rodri’s contract expires in 2027 and he’ll turn 30 years of age in June. He also suffered a serious knee injury in September 2024. However, it would take €100m to get him away from Pep Guardiola’s side after this season.

Real Madrid could focus on other options if they decide against Rodri or find it difficult to secure the Manchester City’s man’s services. Both the Eagles player and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández are his alternatives.

The two midfielders are ‘equally expensive alternatives’ but are younger than Rodri. However, there’s no mention of the fee needed to sign Wharton.

Madrid interest isn’t new as last August, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Wharton is on their radar for this summer. Mundo now pick up on that and cover the latest.

Among the trio, the ‘simplest option is undoubtedly’ the Crystal Palace star. He wants to leave Selhurst Park for the Champions League side but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will join Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old England international is the youngest among the three targets. However, the drawback is that he ‘hasn’t been tested in the most demanding situations’.

Eagles star’s stats, contract and value

Adam Wharton’s Premier League stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 27

Starts: 26

Total minutes: 2,174

Minutes per game: 81

His contract with the London club lasts until 2029 and Transfermarkt value him at €60m.

The Englishman is represented by British agency Omnisports, headed by agent James Featherstone.
