Leon Goretzka
Manchester United have joined Arsenal and other clubs in the chase for Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.
The 31-year-old has a contract expiring in June and has confirmed his decision to leave Bayern Munich after this season.
His contract situation and experience make him an attractive option in the market for the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and other clubs.
Despite his decision to leave, Vincent Kompany continues to rely upon the midfielder, who has made 37 appearances so far this season.
His Bundesliga stats per game are as follows:
Interceptions: 0.9
Tackles: 0.8
Possession won (final third): 0.3
Balls recovered: 3.1
Clearances: 1.3
Duels won: 2.6
Last month, Sport Witness relayed news that the Gunners and their north London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, are chasing him.
Manchester United to battle Arsenal
Gazzetta dello Sport now cover the latest on Manchester United, Arsenal and Serie A interest in Leon Goretzka.
Italian clubs have a greater tendency of focusing on free agents and that’s the case with the Bayern Munich star.
AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan are all keen on the Germany international. Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that he would favour a move to the Emirates.
Despite this and Inter Milan holding talks with his agent, Milan sporting director Igli Tare refuses to give up.
Gazzetta now pick up on that and report Manchester United entering the chase for the player.
Both the Red Devils and Arsenal have ‘already made moves for the free agent’ and would battle for his signature in the summer. Juve, Milan and Inter Milan are also keen.
Goretzka earns €9m per year and needs at least €7m annually from his next club. The Italian clubs are all willing to offer him a three-year deal, but the salary demand make him out of their reach.
This gives an advantage for Manchester United and Arsenal, who could tussle for his signature after this season.
Manchester United should prioritise midfield signing
Michael Carrick has Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount as the midfielders at his disposal. The manager has moved Bruno Fernandes to his preferred role as an attacking midfielder.
Casemiro has announced his decision to leave Old Trafford after this season. Ugarte, who has struggled for regular minutes, could also leave. Even if he were to stay, Manchester United need to bring in a new midfielder in the summer.
Leon Goretzka could replace Casemiro, while the Red Devils can invest big on another young midfielder.
