Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona fate is uncertain, amid the reports linking the Manchester United loanee with AC Milan and PSG.
Last week, our colleagues at CaughtOffside reported that Milan have reignited their interest in signing Rashford, given that Barcelona are ‘backtracking’ on exercising the previously agreed option to buy clause in the deal with Manchester United.
Up in the air
Mundo Deportivo have provided an update on the situation, stating that Rashford is playing to earn his permanent move to Barcelona in the coming months. The Englishman is expected to be the replacement for the injured Raphinha, who is out for the next five weeks with a hamstring injury.
So, Rashford will need to step up to help Hansi Flick’s team achieve their goal of winning LaLiga and going as far as possible in the Champions League. Then, the Catalan club will make a call on the €30m buy-out clause agreed with United.
Yet, the report also states that the signing of the 28-year-old is pending whether it can be adapted to the parameters of LaLiga’s financial fair play. Everything seems to be pointing towards a final agreement for Rashford to join Barcelona, and the player is delighted to be in the city.
However, if Barça walk away, they cite the aforementioned report in claiming that Paris Saint-Germain and Milan are monitoring Rashford’s situation with a view to strengthening their squads next season. Both clubs have been linked with him in the past and are ‘keeping a close eye on the situation’.
Rashford has 10 goals and 11 assists in 39 appearances for Barça and has contributed significantly to the attack, although his role has diminished in recent matches. Three months remain in the season and will be ‘crucial’ in determining the future of the England international.
