Pitt linebacker gives glowing review of Steelers after pre-draft visit

One of the top safety prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft played only steps away from the Steelers’ facility.

All-American Pitt linebacker Kyle Louis is receiving significant NFL interest as a safety, with teams believing his pay may translate better in the secondary. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper ranks Louis as the fourth-best safety in the draft.

Pitt held its Pro Day on Friday, giving Louis another opportunity to showcase his skills in front of NFL coaches, GMs, scouts, and more. Louis also confirmed that he met with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the draft process.

“It was definitely great,” Louis told Nick Farabaugh of PennLive. “I’m already familiar with the area, but I’ve never been on that side. Being on that side and seeing all these new coaches, talking to my linebackers coach, it was a great time.”

Louis ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at the combine in Indianapolis and worked out at the joint Steelers-Pitt facility on Friday. He didn’t notice how much attention Steelers personnel pay to Pitt across the halls.

“Seeing from the other side, they do actually pay attention to a lot of Pitt players and show love to us,” Louis said. “I never really noticed back when I was focused on the next college football game. It’s a good thing to notice.”

In 37 games over four seasons, Louis totaled 201 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and six interceptions at Pitt.

A 2024 All-American and 2025 Preseason All-American, Louis finished his redshirt sophomore year with 101 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and four interceptions, including a pick-six of Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord.
