Chiefs predicted to take Alabama WR to help Patrick Mahomes in 2026 NFL mock draft

The Kansas City Chiefs have done what they can in the NFL Draft in recent years to give Patrick Mahomes some new wide receivers.

None of the picks have been home runs, though, and it might be time for the Chiefs to go back to the well in the 2026 NFL Draft.

That's what ESPN's Matt Miller suggests in a new mock draft which he released on Monday. His prediction involves pick No. 41 early in the second round -- he has the Chiefs using it to select WR Germie Bernard out of Alabama.

Given the Crimson Tide successes in the last couple decades at the wide receiver position, it feels like you can't go wrong picking a wideout from Alabama.

"Rashee Rice's future is in question after another off-field incident, and Xavier Worthy has yet to emerge as a WR1," Miller writes. "Bernard would, at minimum, be a capable WR3 and replace the targets departed free agents Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster received, with the upside to grow into a frontline starter in the slot. His yards-after-catch ability and versatility to play across the formation -- even at tailback -- should appeal to Andy Reid's creativity."

Bernard had a winding college career. He began at Michigan State for a year, then spent a season at the University of Washington.

The past two campaigns were in Tuscaloosa for Bernard.

In 2024, he had 50 catches for 794 yards and two touchdowns to go with four runs for 37 yards and a score.

Then in 2025, he upped it to 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns along with 18 runs for 101 yards and two more TDs.

He's definitely the kind of talent the Chiefs could use. Mahomes would certainly approve of this pick.
