Tape Breakdown

Connor Lew is a three-year starter and early entry into the 2026 NFL Draft. He has good height, very good weight, good arm length, and solid hands size. His left knee was rolled up against Missouri last October tearing his ACL and ending his final season.

As a pass blocker, he is an active communicator pre-snap and displays very good snap quickness with a good base. His pad level is good, and he has good core strength with a strong anchor. He shows good hand placement and refits his hands well as needed.

His awareness is good with Lew effectively managing twists and stunts as well as finding the late blitzer. There is no overreaching versus blitzers, and he can overpower them with play strength. On screens, he displays good mobility and when uncovered he looks for work.

As a run blocker, he again shows very good snap quickness and generally positions himself well. His awareness to execute his role and identify extra defenders to block is elite.

Here he is engaged with the nose tackle and sees the linebacker coming downhill and prevents him from making the tackle.

On down/pin blocks he displays the quickness to block one gap over and gets squared up and uses his hands well to wall off defenders. He uses good leg drive to get a push on gap blocks and displays good agility to pull as well. On double-team blocks he gets hip to hip with teammates and gets a good push.

On combo blocks, Lew is strong as the post and shows good timing when climbing to the second level.

When defenders win with their hands to his chest he can be pushed back. Pass rushers showing quickness into his gaps can gain an advantage. His lateral agility to match pass rushers is adequate.

He doesn’t move defenders out of their spot with physicality. His pad level will raise occasionally, and he almost looks complacent on some plays slowing his feet. On reach blocks, he is adequate getting his hip around to cut off defenders.

Conclusion

Lew is a player with good size, very good mental processing, and good athleticism. He is an active communicator, plays with good pad level and uses his hands well in pass protection. His agility is solid on screens, and he handles twists and stunts well. In the run game, he positions himself well, has agility to pull or block a gap over and his awareness is top notch on the first and second levels.

Areas to improve include more consistency versus quick rushers into his gaps, better lateral footwork to mirror rushers as well had countering hands to his chest. Adding plays strength will help in the run game as well as working on footwork on reach blocks.

Lew is a technically sound and highly intelligent player, and he won’t turn 21 until just before the 2026 season. The knee injury he suffered in October 2025 could prevent him from being ready for the start of the season, which may push him down draft boards a touch. Whomever takes him will benefit as he is capable of playing in multiple schemes and could physically handle playing guard as well.

For a player comp, I’ll go with Tanor Bortolini. He is very good at technique, has mobility and good hand placement with room to improve as a drive blocker and with his feet in pass protection.
