Saints reveal unexpected Alvin Kamara plan after Travis Etienne Jr. signing

The New Orleans Saints made a few big roster moves this offseason, with the signings of left guard David Edwards and running back Travis Etienne Jr. being the major moves.

Those are two key pieces of the offense to surround Tyler Shough with as good an environment as possible. The addition of Etienne, however, has left the Saints with a big question regarding the future of Alvin Kamara.

However, despite speculation on Kamara's retirement, a possible trade or a cut, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Saints head coach Kellen Moore revealed a different plan with Kamara next season.

Saints HC reveals unexpected plan with Alvin Kamara

"Kellen Moore said he plans on having Alvin Kamara in the running back room and thinks he and Etienne can fit together well," Underhill reports.

This is a very interesting plan from Moore. While using multiple running backs isn't a surprise by any means, the nature of the Saints' running back room makes this surprising.

New Orleans spent a lot of money, $24 million over the next two years specifically, on Etienne this offseason. Kamara is making over $10 million this season, so the Saints will be spending well over $20 million on their running back room in 2026 if Kamara stays.

They have the money to make this situation work, but it doesn't take away from this plan being a slightly unexpected one.

Kamara being released, traded, or the former Pro Bowler retiring wouldn't have been a surprise this offseason.

Keandre Miller and Devin Neal are solid backup options at the running back position, so the Saints wouldn't need to worry about their depth if Kamara retired or left.

The Saints plan to keep Kamara, according to Moore, which is a slightly unexpected outcome after how much they spent on Etienne this offseason.
