Cristhian Mosquera is optimistic Arsenal can go the distance in both the Premier League and Champions League this season despite the club's recent Carabao Cup final defeat.

The Spanish central defender has been a big hit at the Emirates Stadium since joining the Gunners from Valencia last August.

He could have a key role to play in the coming weeks and months as William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have both been nursing ankle and knee issues respectively.

But he feels Mikel Arteta's side are "ready" to make the next step and win trophies, explaining: "In recent years, Arsenal hasn't quite achieved what it set out to do, but I think we're ready this year.

"We know we have the chance to win titles. We're going to do everything we can to bring joy to the fans. In the Champions League, I think we're doing pretty well this year, we're in the quarter-finals now, and hopefully we can go further and win it."

In many respects, Mosquera has two perfect role models to learn from at Arsenal in Saliba and Gabriel.

Both are ranked among the best centre-backs in world football and Mosquera has paid tribute to his fellow defenders for the help they have given him throughout his debut season at Arsenal.

He continued: "From day one, the two of them have been by my side, giving me advice and always trying to look after me, like parents, like older siblings.

"I'm very grateful to them. They are two of the best centre-backs in the world, and it's a pleasure and a privilege to train with them and watch them play every weekend."

Mosquera made his senior Spain debut on Friday in the 3-0 friendly win over Serbia. Colombia have been courting his services but he's now hopeful of earning a World Cup spot with La Roja.

He concluded: "What I'm going through is crazy, so I've got to make the most of it. Only God knows if I'll get the chance to make that list, but I think every player that represents his country dreams of going to the World Cup."
