The New England Patriots have been heavily linked to a trade for a star wide receiver this offseason. While Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown remains the most popular target, a potential backup plan for him is Davante Adams of the Los Angeles Rams.
With the Rams showing interest in a potential trade for Brown, Adams' name began to pop up in trade rumors. New England was labeled a potential landing spot, especially if it missed out on Brown. However, with L.A. out of the running for Brown, it sounds like Adams will stay put, according to head coach Sean McVay.
"Sean McVay said he spoke with WR Davante Adams about potential trade talks involving the 33-year-old," Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported in a post on X. "The HC says he believes it’s important to tell players what’s going on and what was being discussed. He adds 'We are glad he’s a Ram.'”
In his first season with Los Angeles, Adams racked up 789 yards on 60 receptions, while also leading the league with 14 receiving touchdowns. There's no doubt he's still one of the most productive wideouts around, but as he prepares to enter his age-34 season, he doesn't really fit New England's timeline.
A trade for Adams never seemed to be a logical option for the Pats, meaning all eyes will remain on Brown. However, with the Eagles having no incentive to trade Brown before June 1, that means this saga could be set to linger for the next couple of months.
