“I Don’t Really Want to Waste a Ton More Breath on This Topic”: Browns GM Makes Final Call on…

Every offseason, the Myles Garrett trade chatter fires back up, but this year it has got more fuel than usual. Anyways, the celebrant Brons seems to reach a final decision about their best defensive end.

In this NFL offseason, the Browns quietlyrestructured Garrett’s contract. They moved his option bonuses for 2026, 2027, and 2028 from early in the league year to just before the start of each regular season. That change means the team would not have to pay the bonus if he is traded before that deadline, giving Cleveland more flexibility.

Amid the move, there were serious trade discussions, as Garrett is coming off a strong 2025 season. He set the NFL single-season record with 23.0 sacks, won his second Defensive Player of the Year award, and made his seventh Pro Bowl.

So, for now, the Browns say they do not plan to trade him, but the contract change keeps that option open through the summer.

Andrew Berry shuts down Myles Garrett trade rumors

Cleveland GM Andrew Berry finally hit his limit after all the trade noise regarding Garett. Cornered by reporters at the NFL Annual Meetings on Sunday.

“Myles is a career Brown,” hesaid. “He is one of the faces of our organization. I think we’ve been very clear both past and present in terms our feelings. I understand all the questions, but I’ll be honest: I don’t really want to waste a ton more breath on the topic.”

Berry’s refusal to trade Garrett is simple math. Last season, Garrett’s 23 sacks outperformed the entire San Francisco 49ers defense, which managed a league-low 20. Teams can’t find that kind of production through the draft or free agency, which is why Berry is finally shutting down the talk of cashing away his best player.

The question for 2026 is what happens around Garrett. After a 5–12 finish in 2025, the Browns fired Kevin Stefanski and hired Todd Monken to take over. Deshaun Watson is expected back after missing all of last year with a double Achilles injury, but he’ll have to compete with young quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel for the starting job.

If Monken can build a functional offense, it would solidify Garrett’s legacy in Cleveland and might finally quiet the trade rumors for good.
