The Dallas Cowboys have emerged as a potential destination for veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner as the offseason continues. The possibility of adding an experienced defender has generated interest around the team’s defensive outlook.
Wagner, an 11-time All-Pro, remains one of the most accomplished linebackers of his generation. His production and leadership have defined a career that continues to draw attention even as he enters the later stages of his playing days.

Dallas has been searching for stability at linebacker, particularly after dealing with inconsistency and depth concerns. Bringing in a veteran presence could help solidify the unit and provide a reliable anchor in the middle of the defense.
Wagner’s experience in reading offenses and directing defensive alignments would offer immediate value. His ability to contribute against both the run and the pass makes him a versatile option for a team looking to strengthen its defensive identity.

Dallas was recently identified as a possible landing spot for Wagner. This is detailed more in an analysis by Carter Bahns for CBS Sports.
There is probably no more obvious deficiency in the NFL than the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive weaknesses. The league’s worst scoring defense in 2025 needs a talent influx to go with its coordinator change, and Wagner would be an affordable addition. Jerry Jones built some defensive depth over the first couple weeks of free agency but still lacks the kind of splashy addition that could incite optimism for a quick and noticeable turnaround. Wagner may not be a break-the-bank kind of player at this stage of his career, but he would raise the defense’s floor more than some of the team’s other offseason pickups.
The potential move would also reflect the Cowboys’ willingness to pursue proven talent in an effort to remain competitive. Adding a player with Wagner’s résumé could elevate the defense while providing mentorship for younger players.
As the NFL offseason unfolds, Dallas continues to evaluate options to improve its roster. Whether the team ultimately pursues Wagner or explores other avenues, the focus remains on building a defense capable of supporting a deep postseason run.
