49ers reporter suggests that team could be interested in multi-time All-Pro from lousy AFC team

The San Francisco 49ers don’t have many obvious holes, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t looking for ways to get better. There's no such thing as having too much talent in the NFL, and with the injuries the 49ers have dealt with recently, that's something they'll have to factor in.

According to David Lombardi, the 49ers could be interested in Joel Bitonio, who has played for the Cleveland Browns. Bitonio would be an incredible pickup for the 49ers.

“Those of you unfamiliar with Joel Bitonio, he’s been one of the great guards in the NFL over the course of the past decade, decade-and-a-half,” Lombardi said. “He has been with the Cleveland Browns for all of that time. His first season in the NFL was 2014. Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator of the Browns in 2014…

"Joel Bitonio is a potential target if he doesn’t retire. He’s at age 34, but he has still been playing really good football. And if you want to talk about building a dominant left side of the offensive line, well, Trent Williams is still a dominant player.”

Having guys who can block for Brock Purdy is very important, and part of the reason why the 49ers have had as much success as they have when they're at their best in recent years.

Factor that in with Christian McCaffrey on the ground, and adding a long-time veteran who has proven he can do what's needed up front always goes a long way.

At 34 years old, with a long career already behind him, retirement is possible, but perhaps playing for a storied organization like the 49ers couldn't Tyson.
