The New England Patriots made it to the Super Bowl last season, and Drake Maye's MVP-caliber season was a huge reason why.
Maye established himself as an elite quarterback and will look to deliver a championship to the Patriots in the coming years. Last season, he got very close, but came up short against the Seattle Seahawks. However, he may not have been playing at 100%.
In the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, it was revealed that Maye was dealing with a shoulder injury. He was limited in some practices before the big game. After the Super Bowl loss, he clarified he would not need to have any procedure done to fix the issue, and it was just unfortunate timing that he took a hard hit in the AFC Championship Game.
On Monday, Eliot Wolf appeared on "Up & Adams" and provided an update on where Maye is in his recovery.
“He’s fine, he’s ready to go,” Wolf said. “Focusing on getting some improvement in some of the areas that we identified, and expect him to be a full participant in the off-season program.”
This is great news for everyone involved with the Patriots. Maye proved he can lead the team on a deep playoff run, and having him healthy will be key in getting back to the Super Bowl. Perhaps if Maye had been healthy for last season's Super Bowl, the game would have played out differently. However, Maye did not use the shoulder as an excuse after the loss.
