Omar Khan Offers Encouraging Broderick Jones Update

The health and future of left tackle Broderick Jones have been a concern for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but fortunately for the Black and Gold, there appear to be some recent positive developments.

According to Steelers GM Omar Khan, who spoke to local media from Arizona at the NFL Owners meetings Monday, Jones is progressing in his rehab from the neck injury he suffered in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears. This ultimately ended his season and led to surgery.

“He’s starting to do more and more. I’ve talked to him a couple times over the last couple weeks, and he’s in a good place and ready to work hard and do whatever he can to be ready to go,” Khan said of Jones, according to a tweet from the Tribune Review’s Chris Adamski.

Just a few weeks ago at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Khan told reporters that he was a bit concerned about Jones’ outlook, stating it was a “good question” what Jones’ future looked like, particularly with the 2026 season, and that his health was something the franchise was monitoring ahead of deciding on his fifth-year option.

With Jones out of the lineup late in the season, Dylan Cook stepped up and played some solid football down the stretch. However, in the AFC Wild Card blowout loss against the Houston Texans, Cook struggled in pass protection against Houston’s dominant front.

This offseason, the left tackle position has been a point of contention for the Steelers, especially with a new pair of offensive line coaches in James Campen and Jahri Evans. With Jones’ health up in the air and Cook still being relatively inexperienced and raw, left tackle has been identified as a need.

The Steelers didn’t sign a veteran; instead cutting Calvin Anderson, which has led to the position being projected as a potential first-round pick for the Black and Gold.

We’ll see what transpires here in the next month or so at the position, but Khan’s answer Monday regarding Jones is at least positive news this offseason.
