The Rams have hired former Jets interim general manager Phil Savage to join their front office

After coming up just short in their quest to make it back to the Super Bowl last season, the Los Angeles Rams are loading up for the 2026 campaign. The front office has made a handful of explosive moves, with their blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie being one of the biggest additions across the league.

With general manager Les Snead in charge of things, Los Angeles is going to remain one of the most aggressive teams in the NFL. However, the Rams are always looking for any sort of advantage that they can get, and that recently led to them bringing former New York Jets interim general manager Phil Savage to town.

Phil Savage Joins Rams as Personnel Department Consultant

Savage has been working in football since 1987, when he was a graduate assistant with the Alabama Crimson Tide. After working as a coach for several years, Savage eventually transitioned into an executive role, as he worked as a college scout with the Cleveland Browns starting in 1993. That kick-started a prestigious career for Savage that has seen him spend time with several different teams.

Throughout his time in the NFL, Savage is most well-known for being the Browns’ general manager from 2005 to 2008. He also served as the Jets’ interim general manager in 2024, before reverting to a consultant role with them for the 2025 campaign. With the team laboring through another rough year, though, Savage opted to move on and find a new home.

That has seen him trek from the East Coast to the West Coast, as he will be joining Los Angeles’ front office. While he has worked in several high-level roles in the past, Savage will be serving as a personnel department consultant, which will see him report to assistant general manager John McKay moving forward.

“Former Browns general manager, Jets and Ravens executive, and Senior Bowl director Phil Savage is now a personnel department consultant for the Rams organization,” Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported in a post on X.

With the 2026 NFL Draft drawing near, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Rams wanted to bring some extra firepower to town. Savage is renowned for being a skilled talent evaluator, and as L.A. puts the finishing touches on its draft board, he should be set to provide some crucial information for Snead and the rest of the front office on some of its top draft prospects.

Los Angeles is going all in on its quest to build a winner for the upcoming season. So far, that plan of attack is going quite well, although it is worth noting that the team already had a strong core group that it was building around. If Snead and the front office can nail their picks in the upcoming 2026 draft, it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise to see the Rams enter the new season as the favorite to win Super Bowl LXI.
