Arsenal have the chance to freshen up their ranks with some new faces this summer
Arsenal remain top of the Premier League above Manchester City. They are hoping to win the title this season after falling short over recent times. Mikel Arteta’s side are nine points clear the summit with only seven fixtures left to play.
The Gunners were beaten 2-0 by City in the Carabao Cup final last time out before the international break. They are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Southampton in the quarter-final of the FA Cup. A place at Wembley awaits the winner at St Mary’s.
Arsenal eye Brahim Diaz summer transfer
Arsenal have the chance to freshen up their squad with some reinforcements this summer. According to Sportsboom, they are interested in £39million-rated Brahim Diaz at Real Madrid ahead of the next transfer window. However, they face competition from rivals Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of his signature.
Spurs’ chances of landing the playmaker will depend on what league they find themselves in. They are currently battling to preserve their top flight status and are sat in 17th place in the table. The North London outfit are positioned just one point above the drop zone ahead of West Ham as they fight it out with the likes of Leeds United and Nottingham Forest to survive.
Diaz, 26, has been on the books of Real Madrid since 2019. However, his long-term future with the La Liga giants is up in the air at this moment in time. He won AFCON last year with Morocco after their result against Senegal in the final was recently overturned.
Would Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz suit Arsenal?
Arsenal could see Diaz as someone to bolster their attacking department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth going forward. In addition, he could inject some more quality into their squad and offer them something different to what they already have at their disposal.
The Morocco international, who has 23 caps to his name, has made 31 appearances for Real Madrid this term but has only managed to score one goal. He has been loaned out three times in the past to AC Milan. The attacking midfielder was a hit during his time in Italy and fired 18 goals in 124 games during his days at the San Siro.
Diaz started his career at Malaga as a youngster but was lured over to England as a youngster by Manchester City in 2015. He went on to play 16 times under Pep Guardiola before he left the Etihad Stadium to join his current club. The player may now feel like he has unfinished business in this country.
A change of scene would do him good and Arsenal would be an ideal next destination, especially if Martin Odegaard left. As for Spurs, they would also be a good home for him as they would be able to offer him regular minutes which is what he needs at this stage of his career. There is no chance he would drop down to the second tier though if they were relegated.
