Former Jets QB who made one 'cameo' start in 2022 retires from football

The New York Jets saw one of their former players announce their surprise retirement this offseason, with Bryce Huff, who spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and, most recently, in 2025 with the San Francisco 49ers, retiring at 27 years old.

It was a surprising announcement from Huff, but he's not the only former Jets player to step away from the game of football this offseason.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, former Jets quarterback Chris Streveler, who made one start for the Jets back in 2022, has retired from playing professional football.

Ex-Jets QB Chris Streveler retires from NFL, CFL

"Retirement news: Former Jets QB Chris Streveler, 31, has announced that he's hangin up his cleats," Cimini reports. "Who can forget his #Jets cameo in 2022, when he attempted 15 passes and completed 10? Had a nice run in the CFL."

When it comes to former Jets players, Streveler is certainly one of them. He played in just two games in his Jets career, playing seven special teams snaps in his second game, and being the starting quarterback for his first game with the team.

During his lone start, Streveler completed 10 of 15 passes for a 66.7 completion percentage for 90 yards. He had no touchdowns and no interceptions, but he did record five first downs on his 10 completions.

He also ran the ball fairly well, running the ball nine times for 54 yards, getting one first down, and fumbling once against the Jacksonville Jaguars at the end of the 2022 NFL Season.

Streveler spent three years in the NFL, playing the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before his 2022 season was spent with the Jets.

He stuck on the roster for a bit of the offseason after his one start in 2022, before he was ultimately waived in mid-August.

He found his way back to the CFL after spending the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Winnipeg Jets.

He returned to Winnipeg, playing two seasons in 2024 and 2025, where he played in 31 games, completing 124 of his 198 passes for 1,446 yards and seven touchdowns with 12 interceptions, including 1,103 yards, six TDs, and 11 interceptions in 2025.

The 31-year-old quarterback who went to college at Minnesota and South Dakota is retiring from his playing days, stepping away from football after essentially a decade of playing professional football.
