Stefon Diggs #8 of the New England Patriots looks on during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Buffalo Bills failed to take advantage of a rare opportunity without the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs last season, but could see a recharged Chiefs team returning in 2026 — with a top former Bills player potentially joining them.

The Chiefs struggled on both sides of the ball in 2025, falling to 6-11 and missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade. The Bills also failed to win their division and saw their playoff run come to an end with a divisional-round loss to the Denver Broncos.

While the Bills are adjusting to new head coach Joe Brady, the Chiefs are expected to make some abrupt changes to their own roster, with one insider suggesting they could land Stefon Diggs to boost the offense.

Stefon Diggs Could Join Chiefs

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggested one free agent signing for all 32 NFL teams, predicting the Chiefs could add Diggs as a big boost to their offense.

“A Chiefs team used to deep playoff runs is coming off its first 10-loss season since a 2-14 debacle in 2012, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is rehabbing the first major injury of his career—an ACL tear that leaves his availability for the start of the 2026 campaign in doubt,” Davenport wrote.

Davenport suggested that Diggs would make sense, giving the offense a clear-cut No. 1 receiver.

“Bringing in Stefon Diggs wouldn’t be a weird move, though. The Chiefs need to add a wide receiver to a room that currently sports Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and not much else. Kansas City has also made something of a habit of bringing in veteran wide receivers who were cast off by other teams.”

Diggs proved last season that he overcame the knee injury that cut short his 2024 season. He made 85 receptions for 1,013 yards with four touchdowns as he helped lead the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl appearance.

Diggs has gotten into some off-the-field troubles that could complicate issues, however. He has been indicted on felony charges related to an alleged assault on a former personal chef.

Bills Making Wide Receiver Moves of Their Own

The Bills have seen significant changes to their own wide receiving corps since trading Diggs to the Houston Texans in 2024. The team adopted an “everybody eats” approach the next season, spreading the targets out to a wider group of pass catchers.

While that approach brought strong results for the team in 2024, the Bills struggled last season as their receiver group often failed to get separation from opposing defense and Josh Allen faced significant pressure.

The Bills have already begun to address the group, trading for Chicago Bears receiver DJ Moore. Bills general manager Brandon Beane this week hinted that the team could be interested in using their first-round draft pick on another receiver.

WGR 550 reporter Sal Capaccio noted that Beane didn’t get into specifics, but said the team was open to the idea.

“Beane on possibly drafting WR in first round after DJ Moore trade: ‘Definitely still open to it.’ ” Capaccio shared in a post on X.
