A Chicago Bears rival just dropped news about the franchise's pursuit of a Maxx Crosby trade, and it's of interest to the Bears.

One of the storylines from the offseason that just won’t go away is the availability of Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders and the Chicago Bears being a team of interest. Now, Crosby is back with the Raiders, but in the NFL, anything can happen, so he’s still considered an available player for a trade, which means the Bears will have a chance to get him.

Back in September, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson talked about Crosby and made it clear that he respects the player. “In my opinion, he’s a top five player in this league on defense and probably doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves,” Johnson told reporters before the Bears’ game against the Raiders on September 28.

Johnson added of Crosby, “He’s all over the place. Relentless, high motor. You have to account for him and know where he is at every single snap or else he’ll get you and he wrecks drives. That’s what he does.”

Now, the Bears’ chances of snagging Crosby just got even better. One of the team’s biggest NFC North rivals has shared an update about their interest in a Crosby trade, and it’s good news for the Bears if they want to eventually snag him.

Chicago Bears Rival Drops Out of the Race for Maxx Crosby

The Detroit Lions, a rival of the Bears, have often been mentioned as one of the teams interested in Crosby. But, are the Lions really interested in trading for him?

In an interview published on Monday, March 30, Detroit Lions president Ron Wood goes into details about what management thinks of the Crosby idea. Speaking with Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, said that the Lions were never interested in getting Crosby.

In the interview, he says that the Lions were “never were in the game” for a top-tier pass rusher during the offseason, including Crosby or Trey Hendrickson. As he explained, “When we’re looking at our cash and cap budget, we’re looking at it as is and as it will be with those guys knowing that we want to keep many of them, all of them if we can.”

Wood added, “So if we had gone out and done the biggest – let’s say we did the Maxx Crosby trade or the Trey Hendrickson signing, that probably would have meant, which one of these guys are we going to let go?”

Maxx Crosby by the Numbers and Statistics

During the 2025-26NFL regular season, according to NFL research, Crosby recorded 73 total tackles, 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and one interception. Those numbers are strong, so when Crosby is healthy, he’s a force.

But, in a Tuesday, March 24, feature, ESPN’s Ryan McFadden shared that the reason Baltimore decided not to do it was because they were worried about the discovery of a degenerative problem that surfaced in his surgically repaired knee.

In the same report, the Baltimore Ravens pushed back on Crosby’s public statements about not being able to meet with the team’s general manager and coach at an expected time. So, it’s a messy situation that may never really get resolved. But, if the Chicago Bears still have interest in Crosby, it’s a situation that could eventually work out.
