Superstar pass-rusher Micah Parsons tore his ACL near the end of last season, and the Green Bay Packers brass is doing what it can to keep fan expectations in check with regards to how quickly Parsons will get back onto the field.

General manager Brian Gutekunst spoke with media at the NFL’s annual meetings on Monday, March 30, and while he offered positivity with regards to Parsons’ progress, he also made it clear that the Packers are moving forward with caution at the forefront.

“[We have] invested quite a bit, and we will be very careful with that investment,” Gutekunst said, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Micah Parsons Likely to Miss Opening Month of Regular Season

Parsons had a clean tear of his ACL that was not complicated by further issues in the knee, which created the best possible scenario for an expedient return relative to how long it takes the average athlete to recover from such a traumatic injury.

That said, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reported earlier this month that Parsons will likely miss three or four games to begin the regular season, meaning he may not make his debut until early October.

“Parsons is expected to miss the first three or four games of the season while finishing ACL rehab, but you can bet your bottom dollar that he’ll be scratching and clawing to play before then,” Schneidman wrote.

Green Bay’s pass rush is diminished following the team’s decision to deal Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys, which means the Packers are in the market for at least one veteran edge-rusher to bolster both the talent at the top end of the position group and its depth once Parsons returns.

“After trading Rashan Gary and letting Kingsley Enagbare sign with the New York Jets, Gutekunst might want another veteran in a young room, especially while Parsons remains sidelined,” Schneidman continued. “Names like Jadeveon Clowney and Leonard Floyd are still available, and both were productive given their age last season.”

Leonard Floyd Floated as Option for Packers to Round Out Pass Rush

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report on Monday named Floyd the remaining free agent who can most help Green Bay round out its pass rush in Parsons’ stead.

“The Pack needs bodies — and while the team has $22 million and change in cap space, they also have needs at other positions. Green Bay needs to be frugal here,” Davenport wrote. “At 33 years of age, Leonard Floyd isn’t going to be especially expensive — especially after managing just 3.5 sacks in 15 games with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025. But in five straight seasons from 2020-2024, Floyd logged at least 8.5 sacks — including a pair of seasons with double-digits in that category.”

The Packers’ other roster needs include starting-level cornerback talent, depth on the interior of the defensive line and depth along the offensive line, which is nowhere near the dominant unit it was two and three years back when QB Jordan Love took over for Aaron Rodgers.
