Brzezinski Reveals Vikings’ Offseason Plan for Jordan Addison

The Minnesota Vikings haven’t been all that active on the free agency market this offseason, outside of signing Kyler Murray “to compete” with JJ McCarthy and a couple of depth additions on both sides of the football.

After the Kwesi era sucked the Wilfs dry, they are determined to spend more wisely this offseason, with trust that they can still build a competitive roster. With that being said, acting general manager Rob Brzezinski has been intentional about spending what little budget he does have on retaining key contributors from 2025.

Among the players who have been retained either via extension, restructure or tender are Jalen Redmond, Eric Wilson, TJ Hockenson and Aaron Jones and Ivan Pace Jr.

The Minnesota Vikings have also steered clear of any trades involving their best players this offseason, despite plenty of excuses to do so.

Jonathan Greenard’s representation, for example, has been unsuccessfully shopping him on the trade block for months now, after Brzezinski denied him a pay raise earlier this offseason.

And don’t forget former first round draft pick Jordan Addison, whose been catching more arrests recently than he has touchdowns. When the Minnesota Vikings used the 23rd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft on Jordan Addison, they envisioned a possible star to pair next to Justin Jefferson.

Minnesota Vikings plan to opt-in on 5th year of Jordan Addison

On the field, especially when the Vikings have provided him a suitable quarterback, Jordan has thrived. Off the field, however, has been a much different story. In the past 36 months, Addison has been arrested THREE times.

Yet, despite Addison’s regular run-ins with the law, all signs point to Minnesota retaining their 24-year-old wide receiver either via extension or, as Rob Brzezinski revealed Monday, by exercising the fifth-year team option on his first round rookie contract — an official decision due about one month from now.

The Vikings intend to exercise the team’s fifth-year option on receiver Jordan Addison, Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski told media members Monday at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting.

“He’s a really important player for us, an impact player,” Brzezinski said. “We’re definitely exercising the option. For sure. The deadline for that is after the draft.”

By exercising Addison’s option, the Minnesota Vikings will be on the hook for $18 million fully guaranteed to the standout wide receiver in 2027. While that number is more than double his career earnings to date, it’s also a steal of a deal if he can stay out of trouble.

Addison was arrested on suspicion of DUI in 2024, and served a three-game suspension to start last season. In January, Addison was arrested in Florida for refusing to leave a casino, charges that were later dropped.

The former USC and Pittsburgh standout was also benched in London, after he left team Vikings team facilities the week of their game against the Cleveland Browns long enough to miss a team walkthrough.

When not getting trouble off the field, Addison has been a pretty major asset on it. Even while his 2025 numbers were watered down by poor QB play, he still managed 610 yards and three touchdowns. In 2024, with Sam Darnold, he put up 875 yards and nine touchdowns.

MN Vikings could still extend Jordan Addison

While there is still time until the deadline for Minnesota to official exercise Addison’s 5th year option, it’s still possible he gets a contract extension but never actually plays on it. According to recent reports, an extension is still possible this offseason.

The Minnesota Vikings previously went that route with star left tackle Christian Darrisaw. A first round pick in 2021, Darrisaw’s 5th year option was going to be picked up, but ultimately they worked out a four-year deal at $113 million in the summer of 2024.
