Kevin Warren rules out downtown Chicago for new stadium

P HOENIX, AZ., — The Chicago Bears still haven't committed to a site yet for their new stadium project, and after a few years of back-and-forth, something needs to get done. While in Phoenix for the annual league meetings, President Kevin Warren made some media rounds. And he had a bit of an update on where things stand.

In an interview with ProFootballTalk on Monday, Warren discussed the latest in the Bears' stadium plans. He predicted that the team would have an answer sometime in the spring or the summer. While they are focusing on both the Arlington Heights property and the Northwest Indiana property, Warren did seem to rule out another situation.

Waren told Mike Florio and Chris Simms on Pro Football Talk on NBC that the team doesn't see itself building in downtown Chicago.

"We strongly believe the only site in the state of Illinois and Cook County is Arlington Heights," Warren said. "Because when you see that property, having 326 acres with the train station there, the things that we would be able to do — there are some great sites, we talked a couple of years ago about doing something at the Museum campus. There was no appetite at that point in time there. And there are some other sites that just don't fit."

It's crucial that a resolution happens sooner than later for the Bears' franchise. They had planned for shovels in the ground at different points last year but it never happened and they had to keep waiting.

The longer this goes on, the more complicated it gets. However, it's good that they have essentially narrowed it down to two sites, and we should have an answer in the coming weeks, it sounds like.
