The Dolphins spoke publicly about their desire to extend De'Von Achane
The Miami Dolphins have undergone a roster purge during the offseason, which has led to Miami’s salary cap being spent mostly on players who are no longer a part of the team heading into the 2026 season. Miami has done this as the team’s front office seeks to reset their salary cap, hoping to build the foundation with a strong draft class and some of the team’s young core.
Once Jon-Eric Sullivan took over as general manager, he expressed his desire to obtain more draft picks in order to build that strong foundation. That led to Miamitrading away former first-round pick wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a first and third round draft pick.
Following the trade, many wondered whether the Dolphins might be open to moving some of their other star players like Pro Bowl running back De’Von Achane. Regarding those trade rumors,ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that De’Von Achane was not available. Now, Miami’s general manager and head coach have shared their thoughts on whether Achane will be a part of the team moving forward.
Miami Dolphins General Manager Shuts Down Trade Talks
During the NFL owners meetings, Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan stated there was no desire for Miami to trade De’Von Achaneas he said,“There is zero effort on my end to move Achane.”
ESPN writer Marcel-Louis Jacques added that Sullivan said it was a “priority” for the Dolphins to sign Achane to an extension.
Head coach Jeff Hafley seemed aligned with Sullivan’s line of thinking ashe told Kay Adamsregarding Achane’s status, “I got a good feeling he’s gonna be around.”
Additionally, Sullivan also spoke on the rumors aboutteams inquiring about linebacker Jordyn Brooks.Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson posted on X, Sullivan “said he “got a couple calls” inquiring about LB Brooks, but “Jordyn I want to be part of this. He’s a very good player, we would like him to be a pillar on the defensive side as we build this out.”
Sullivan then added that Aaron Brewer, Brooks and Achane were the three pillars he wants to build around. All three players are set to be free agents after the 2026 season.
Dolphins Pillars
The three players mentioned previously are all coming off the best season of their careers. Running back De’Von Achane was selected to his first career Pro Bowl as he totaled 1,838 scrimmage yards, which were the third-most by a Dolphins player in franchise history. Achane also led the NFL in yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Brooks was named a first-team All-Pro as he led the NFL in tackles and was the NFL’s third-best run defender, according to Pro Football Focus.
Finally, Aaron Brewer was selected as a second-team All Pro, asPro Football Focus ranked himas the best run blocker in the NFL and 10th best pass blocking center.
Fortunately for the Dolphins, despite their salary cap troubles in 2026, they are currently projected to have the third-most cap space in 2027, which makes extensions for all three players likely.
