PHOENIX — Nix any lingering concerns about the short-term health of the Broncos’ franchise man.
In his first media availability since the end of January, Broncos owner Greg Penner said Bo Nix’s rehabilitation from a broken ankle has been “really, really good” and made clear that the team expects Nix to be fully healthy for the start of its offseason program.
“He’s attacked his recovery in the same way that he attacks preparing for games, and just done a terrific job,” Penner said Monday at the NFL league meetings. “He’s ahead of schedule. No concerns at all for OTAs, and go forward from there.”
That matches the same messaging Nix himself has given since his season ended in January, following head coach Sean Payton’s strange end-of-season exchange around the quarterback being “predisposed” to his broken ankle suffered late in Denver’s 33-30 win over the Bills. Sources close to the team and to Nix told The Post that Payton was referring to a pre-existing fracture discovered by surgeons in Nix’s ankle, rather than to any chronic issues. Payton himself confirmed as much at the NFL Combine in February.
Penner, by his own measure, said in late January that he had “zero concern” about Nix’s ankle health.
“Absolutely no issues there, or concerns going forward.”
Nix said himself that the timetable for rehabbing his ankle — four to six weeks — wouldn’t interfere with his pre-existing plans for offseason training. Afterhe and his wife, Izzy, welcomed their first child, Riley Belle Nix, on Feb. 25, Izzy posted a photo of Nix carrying his daughter out of the hospital with no boot on his ankle.
All signs point to Nix being full-go once the Broncos kick off organized team activities in May. And all signs point to a crucial training camp for Nix, who comes off a breakout playoff performance in 2025 with a new play-caller (Davis Webb) and a new star receiver (Jaylen Waddle) in tow.
