Who Real Madrid are now ‘much closer’ to signing out of Enzo Fernandez and Rodri - journalist

There has been a small update on the futures of Chelsea vice-captain Enzo Fernandez and Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

Both men are being linked with moves to Real Madrid, while Fernandez is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, as of now, one looks more likely to join the Spanish club than the other.

How much would Enzo Fernandez cost if Chelsea tried to buy him today? 🤔 💰

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez ‘much closer’ to joining Real Madrid than Rodri

Fernandez’s heart appears to be set on Real Madrid, and it seems there is a good chance of the 25-year-old getting his dream move there this summer.

According to journalist Raul Varela, Fernandez is “much closer” to a Real Madrid switch than Rodri. In fact, Varela has claimed there is “no chance” of the City star joining Alvaro Arbeloa’s side.

Speaking on Marca Radio, he said: “Enzo is much closer to Madrid, Rodri has no chance of going to Madrid. Today, the president does not want to sign Rodri.”

Real Madrid could face competition for Fernandez’s signature if they make a swoop for the player in the summer.

As already mentioned, PSG also have the Argentine on their radar, while City have been linked with him, too.

Another journalist, Simon Phillips, recently reported that City are already working on signing Fernandez. However, with his preference seemingly being Real Madrid, the La Liga outfit should win the race for his services.

Of course, with a contract until 2032, there is no guarantee that Chelsea even sell him in the next transfer window.

How Enzo Fernandez and Rodri compare

Fernandez and Rodri are two completely different midfielders. Fernandez is a really offensive No.8 and has even played as a No.10 this season.

The Argentina international loves to get into the opposition’s penalty box, where he is able to score from after making late runs.

In contrast, Rodri is a No.6 who sits deep, recycles possession and dictates play. Real Madrid have perhaps not had that since losing Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, but Fernandez’s skill set probably makes him the more exciting and Galactico-type signing. That is bad news for Chelsea, who must now fear a Real Madrid bid for one of their most important players.
