Sandro Tonali
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old moved to St James’ Park after winning the Serie A title with AC Milan, but he endured a difficult start following a lengthy suspension for breaching betting regulations.
Upon returning, the Italian helped his side win the Carabao Cup trophy last term, making nine goal contributions in 45 appearances across all competitions. This was the Magpies’ first trophy win for almost seven decades.
Although Newcastle have displayed inconsistent performances this season, Tonali has showcased his qualities, scoring three goals and registering six assists.
After proving his qualities in club football, the midfielder has secured his place in the Italy national team’s starting line-up.
Having displayed eye-catching performances in recent years, Tonali has established himself as one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League.
Now, on X, Romano states that Arsenal have expressed their interest in the former Milan star and have held talks to learn about the details of signing him.
Tonali to Arsenal
However, purchasing the Italian won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Manchester City and Manchester United are also in this race.
Like Arsenal, the Citizens have also enquired about the deal, but the Old Trafford club are showing the most concrete interest in finalising the operation. The player would even be open to joining the Red Devils.
Romano said:
“Manchester United have Sandro Tonali very high on their shortlist for June, as reported. The player would be open to the move. Man City and Arsenal, both also informed on Tonali situation.”
With Tonali’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Newcastle are in a strong position to demand a huge fee if they are forced to cash-in and have slapped a whopping £100m price tag on his head.
The Newcastle star is a versatile player, comfortable in the deep-lying playmaker and box-to-box roles. He is quick across the ground, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing, and is efficient in taking set-pieces.
Tonali is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a great coup for any team that manage to secure his services.
