Manchester City have world ‘elite’ youngster in hands – Big plans for rising star

Vitor Reis

Girona will find it difficult to retain Manchester City’s Vitor Reis beyond this season.

The 20-year-old first moved to Europe when the Premier League club signed him from Brazilian side Palmeiras in January 2025.

Pep Guardiola limited him to a minute of action in the league in the second half of last season as he made only four appearances for Manchester City.

The restricted role saw the Etihad club send the centre-back on a season-long loan to Girona in August 2025.

The move has worked out well as he enjoyed regular game time under Míchel. He played 2,477 minutes from 27 matches for the La Liga side so far.

His league stats per game are as follows.

Interceptions: 0.7

Tackles: 1.2

Balls recovered: 2.9

Dribbled past: 0.3

Clearances: 6.0

Blocked shots: 1.2

Duels won: 4.6

His performances were rewarded with a first call up from Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti for this international break. This came as a surprise as per the media from his country.

Manchester City yet to make decision

Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo has a report on where Vitor Reis could play after this season.

A few months ago, there was a real option for the Spanish club to extend the defender’s stay but it’s now an ‘increasingly difficult objective’. That’s because of the player’s ‘meteoric rise’ at Girona.

Pep Guardiola’s initial doubts of include him in his plans this season, which resulted in a loan move.

His ‘scenario has changed’ and has status has been elevated after the latest call up.

The South American is no longer a ‘promising young player, but a centre-back who is beginning to establish himself among the elite.’ This is why the Catalan club are finding it difficult to extend his stay.

Manchester City can decide to include Reis in Guardiola’s plans next season, and if not, let him join a club with ‘greater competitive demands’ than Girona.

Despite the complex task, Míchel’s side won’t give up to try and hold onto the Manchester City man.

Contract, value and agent info

The loan move to Girona didn’t improve Vitor Reis’s value. Transfermarkt say his value is €30m, the same since he moved to Manchester City.

His contract at the Etihad runs down until 2029. P&P Sport Management, headed by agent Federico Pastorello, is taking care of the player’s interest. The representative will have to make a decision on his client’s future in the summer.
