One of Man City’s star players could join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Man City will be keen to come out of the international break strong, when they face off against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final. They won the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal before the break, so will want to continue their momentum.
During the Carabao Cup win, midfielder Rodri looked back to his best, controlling the possession in the middle of the park, and helping to dictate the play from winning the ball to transition in attack.
His contract at Man City is due to expire in June 2027, so many believe that Man City could sell him this summer to avoid him leaving on a free transfer the following summer.
Real Madrid could pay £50m for Rodri
According to Football Insider, an exit for Rodri is inevitable, and Real Madrid remains the most likely destination. Former Man City financial advisor Stefan Borson said that the Cityzens could demand around £50m for Rodri.
He said: “The reality is that the best that City could expect is a one-year extension, perhaps. But in terms of this summer, a lot will depend on whether Real Madrid are prepared to pay, let’s say £50m, which is probably the level that City would entertain.
“I don’t think it’s a major shock that he’s ready to return to Spain, especially after the injury and the intensity of the Premier League and the fact he’s won everything. He’s 30 years old this summer. With Rodri, it doesn’t feel like he is 30 for some reason, but this is just a natural sort of time for him to consider his position.”
Man City looking to replace Rodri with Anderson
Amid the rumours of Rodri potentially leaving, Man City need to have a contingency plan in order to replace the midfielder should he decide to make the move to Real Madrid this summer.
Unless Forest get relegated, Anderson is expected to command a hefty fee of around £100m, because of his impressive performances both for club and country. He will be expecting to play a major role in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad during the World Cup, so Man City should try to make a move before his market value increases even more.
Rivals Man United have also been linked to signing Anderson, but it is understood that City are currently ahead in the race, and are the frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old ahead of the summer.
