Atlético Madrid dream of signing Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella in the summer.
The La Liga side signed Matteo Ruggeri in July 2025 and the Italian has done well when given opportunities. However, there’s belief he’s still not at that level.
Therefore, Los Rojiblancos are looking for a new left-back and the focus is on the Chelsea star.
The Spain international moved to Stamford Bridge from Brighton & Hove Albion for €65m in 2022, a year after arriving in the UK.
After overcoming initial difficulties, he cemented his place at the west London club and has been the first choice. He played 3,077 minutes from 41 matches in all competitions this season.
His Premier League stats per game are as follows:
Interceptions: 0.9
Tackles: 1.6
Balls recovered: 3.3
Clearances: 2.9
Duels won: 3.6
Errors leading to goal: 0
The 27-year-old’s performances for the Premier League side have helped him cement his place in the national team and is most likely to start at the World Cup.
Atlético hope to sign Chelsea man
Tuesday’s edition of AS states Los Rojiblancos have long had Marc Cucurella on their radar. They followed him from his time at Barcelona, Eibar and Getafe. Earlier in the season, the fullback said he didn’t want to leave the Camp Nou side, and doing so still hurts him.
In 2024, the player talked about his desire to be coached by Diego Simeone.
Taking these factors into account, the Atlético Madrid coaching staff see him as a ‘perfect fit’, but it remains an ‘almost impossible dream’.
That’s because Liam Rosenior’s side have made it clear that the former Barcelona man is ‘not for sale’. Despite this, the Blues have other players on their radar.
Sport Witness exclusively reported earlier this month that the Blues have made contact for Sporting’s Maxi Araújo.
Last summer, there was a ‘resounding no’ from Tottenham Hotspur when Atlético tried to sign Cristian Romero. That is repeating itself with Chelsea for Cucurella.
Earlier this month, Apollo Sports Capital became the majority shareholder of the Spanish club. This improves their financial muscle but, Atlético will ‘hit a wall’ with an approach for the Blues star.
Spaniard’s contract, value and agent info
Marc Cucurella has a contract until 2028, and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €50m, €5m less than his highest in November 2022.
Agency Dupla Piqué & Domínguez, owned by agents Aleix Piqué and Álvaro Domínguez, are taking care of the Chelsea man’s future.
