Kai Havertz grabbed his 21st international goal as he played 45 minutes in Germany’s 2-1 win against Ghana on Monday night.
Having played his first minutes for Die Mannschaft in a 4-3 victory against Switzerland three days earlier, Kai was handed a start in the friendly in Stuttgart. Operating on the right wing, he looked sharp in the opening stages, setting up Nick Woltemade for an early chance that just went wide, before hitting the post himself when trying his luck with a free-kick.
But Kai did manage to open the scoring in first-half stoppage time when VAR intervened to give the hosts a penalty for handball, and just as he did for us in Germany earlier in the month against former club Bayer Leverkusen, he was spot-on from 12 yards to score his first international goal since 2024.
After Kai’s withdrawal at the break, Ghana pulled level again through Abdul Fatawu, but a late strike from Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav ensured Julian Nagelsmann’s side extended their run to seven games.
The international break comes to a close on Tuesday night with a trio of Gunners hoping to join Kai at the 2026 World Cup.
Fresh from a hat-trick to beat Ukraine, Viktor Gyokeres’ Sweden will host Poland, while
Christian Norgaard heads to Prague to take on the Czech Republic after his Danish side downed Ireland.
After Italy dispatched Northern Ireland 2-0, Riccardo Calafiori will hope to help his nation qualify for a first World Cup since 2014 when they travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Meanwhile, Ben White will hope to build on his goalscoring display against Uruguay when England host Japan, Cristhian Mosquera and David Raya will want to add to their cap collections in Spain’s friendly with Egypt, and Gabriel Martinelli’s Brazil will tackle Croatia in the USA.
