The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially starting the Mike McCarthy era this season after 19 seasons of Mike Tomlin’s tenure as head coach. However, both the end of Tomlin’s time and the beginning of McCarthy’s have been defined by a large question mark surrounding the quarterback position.
Four-time MVP and former Super Bowl champion Aaron Rodgers was Pittsburgh’s quarterback last season and led the franchise to an AFC North title, but he is still contemplating whether to retire or return and play for another season.
Earlier this offseason, [Rodgers appeared on _The Pat McAfee Show_](https://thecomeback.com/nfl/aaron-rodgers-confirms-undecided-fans-react.html) and didn’t sound like someone who would be imminently making any decisions on his career.
On Monday, it was McCarthy’s turn on the show, and he confirmed some shocking news relating to the future Hall of Fame passer.
“I’ve talked to Aaron Rodgers regularly and we will continue to do so,” McCarthy said. “It’s a process that he’s going thru and we’ve had very positive conversations on a weekly basis.”

Fans reacted to McCarthy’s words on social media.
“So Aaron Rodgers is having weekly conversations with the Steelers head coach & is having conversations with other members of the staff as well… I can see why the Steelers are so confident Aaron is coming back,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Look, Aaron Rodgers gives the Steelers the best chance to win NOW. However, does he give the Steelers the best chance to be a real contender for years to come? I think he only delays that process,” someone else added.
“I still can’t believe this is my Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach. I am still pissed with this decision. 4-13 here we come,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Rodgers’ decision-making process plays out.
