Joao Felix is a talented football player from Portugal. Many people thought he would become a big star in Premier League. He joined Chelsea in August 2024 for a lot of money. But things did not go as planned. In January 2025, he left on loan to AC Milan. Later, he opened up and shared why he really wanted to go.

Time at Chelsea Was Hard

When Joao Felix came back to Chelsea, fans were excited. He had played a short loan there before and scored some goals. This time, he signed for good. He played in 20 games and scored seven goals. He also helped the team in Europe. But he did not start many matches. The manager of Chelsea that time was Enzo Maresca. He had many attackers in the team. Joao Felix often sat on the bench. He tried hard in training but did not get many chances to shine.

Maresca later said the team needed better balance in defence. Too many attacking players made it easy for the other team to score. Joao Felix was professional and never complained. But inside, he wanted more. He felt he was not playing enough. According to reports, he himself asked for a new chance somewhere else. He wanted to feel important again.

He Just Wanted to Play in His Best Position

In one interview, Joao Felix was very clear. He said, “I didn’t ask AC Milan to play every game, just to play in my position.” That was the most important thing for him. At Chelsea, he was not always put where he plays best. He likes to be free to create chances and score. At Milan, the coach Sergio Conceicao promised to use him in his favourite spot. That made Joao Felix choose Milan over other clubs. He felt this was the right move for his career.

Football players need confidence. When they sit on the bench too much, they lose it. Joao Felix wanted to feel happy and useful again.

Why Milan Felt Special Right Away

Joao Felix did not just leave because he was unhappy at Chelsea. He really liked Milan. In a big interview with Gazzetta dello Sport in May 2025, he explained everything. He said he had been watching Milan games even before the offer came. “I thought, ‘I’d like to play in that shirt’,” he told the newspaper.

When the offer arrived, it was easy for him. He called his agent, Jorge Mendes, and said, “Do everything possible to reach the deal.” It all happened quickly. He added that Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world, like Barcelona or Real Madrid. “Wearing this shirt is different,” he said. “When Milan comes calling, it’s hard to say no.”

No Bad Feelings – Just a Smart Move

Joao Felix left The Blues in a good way. The club and the manager understood. Maresca said it was a good option for the player. Everyone was happy for him. There were no fights or angry words. Felix stayed professional until the end.

What This Means for Joao Felix

Joao Felix’s story shows how important it is for players to feel wanted. At Chelsea, he had talent but not the right chances. Leaving for Milan gave him fresh hope. He did not say bad things about Chelsea. He just explained what he needed – the right position and a club he admired.

Joao Felix was honest about his reasons. He wanted to play more, in his best spot, for a team he loved. That simple wish made him leave Chelsea and start a new chapter at AC Milan. Although, currently he is playing for Al-Nassr.
