New England Patriots: KC Concepcion or Omar Cooper Jr. in the 2026 NFL Draft?

The New England Patriots are in a very interesting position in the 2026 NFL Draft. Depending on how the board falls, they could have their choice at receiver coming down to Omar Cooper Jr. and KC Concepcion. Both are great prospects that offer different skill sets and talents, but who could be the better fit in New England? If the Patriots want to prioritize a shiftier speedster, then Concepcion could be their target. If they want a stronger, more physical receiver, then Cooper Jr. could be the answer. So let’s dive in and see which prospect could be the better target for the Patriots.

What does Concepcion bring to the table?

Concepcion is a very fun prospect to watch. He is an electric playmaker, has good speed, and has the suddenness on routes that leave defenders trailing behind him. He has the separation teams want from a receiver, and can take any play to the end zone. He struggled with some drops last season, but this is something he can work on in an NFL program. The tools he has overpower the drops he had, and if the Patriots are prioritizing speed and shiftiness, Concepcion could be the pick.

What does Cooper Jr. bring to the table?

Omar Cooper Jr. is the more physical receiver between these two prospects, and had a very impressive 2025 season with thirteen touchdowns. This just shows the type of threat he could be in the red zone for New England, something the Patriots desperately need. Cooper is a strong presence, that refuses to be denied when he has the ball in his hands. He can play all over the formation, and would be a good security blanket for Drake Maye. After the departure of Stefon Diggs, the Patriots need a chain mover that Maye can go to on key downs, this is exactly what Cooper could be. Cooper would have an immediate role as a rookie, and has the potential to be a rookie of the year candidate.

How do these two players fit into the Patriots offense?

Both of these prospects would be good additions to the Patriots offense, but how would each of them fit in? Starting with Concepcion, it would be fun to give Drake Maye an electric playmaker like the Texas A&M star. His ability to break any play for a score would give the New England offense a much needed jolt, and would give them a dynamic weapon that can be used at any receiver spot on the offense. Not to mention he could create a serious duo with current Patriots receiver Kyle Williams. The combination of Williams and Concepcion would have opposing defenses sweating trying to contain the two shifty speedsters. This would be very entertaining to watch.

When it comes to Cooper Jr., he would be the chain mover that the Patriots rely so much on. Some people believe that Cooper has too much overlap with current New England receiver Romeo Doubs, but I believe the two would complement each other well. Both of them can play multiple different spots on the offense, and would give Maye two physically dominating receivers. NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein’s comparison for Cooper is Deebo Samuel. Samuel has had a great career so far, and at his peak was one of the best weapons in the NFL. If New England can get that type of play from Cooper, they should be more than excited to get him to Foxborough.
