Patriots Predicted To Draft Ohio State Run-Stuffer To Bolster Defense

The Patriots have a little over three weeks before they’re on the clock, selecting with the 31st pick in the first round. It remains a mystery which direction New England will choose.

New England has several options to consider for different positions, including wide receiver, offensive tackle, defensive end and defensive tackle. On Tuesday, Bleacher Report's scouting department released a mock draft in which the Patriots select Ohio State defensive tackle Kayden McDonald at No. 31.

"Kayden McDonald was the tip of the spear for the nation's best defense during the 2025 campaign," Bleacher Report's scouting report wrote. "The Ohio State Buckeyes featured a loaded unit with multiple NFL draft picks at every level, but McDonald set the tone up front."

McDonald played three seasons at Ohio State, appearing in 34 games and recording 85 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and three sacks.

If the Patriots can add McDonald, it could make things even tougher for any running game, as Pro Football Focus ranked him as the No. 1 interior defensive lineman against the run in college football last season.

New England could still consider trading the 31st pick for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. However, if the decision is to hold onto the pick, McDonald might be the best fit for the Patriots.
