New Details Emerge From Aaron Rodgers, Steelers $30 Million Standoff

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike McCarthy recently admitted he and free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers have spoken several times regarding the 2026 season.

“I’ve talked to Aaron regularly and will continue to do so. We’re just working through it. When it’s time to fully address it we will, but it’s a process that he’s going through and I’m comfortable with it,” he said. “We’ve had very, very positive conversations on a weekly basis.”

While neither Rodgers nor McCarthy committed to the future Hall of Fame quarterback playing in Pittsburgh in 2026, ESPN’s Adam Schefter offered his take and a new detail in the negotiations.

“It does sound like the Rodgers thing in Pittsburgh is happening. Him and McCarthy are talking every day, why are they talking every day if he’s not going back? It’s just not official,” Schefter said before revealing a new detail.

“It’s not contractual I was told – I don’t know where they’re at, I think it’s just Aaron being Aaron,” he added.

Schefter’s contract comment comes after former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch suggested the Rodgers-Steelers standoff was coming down to money.

“I may be the only one saying this at this particular point. This decision is coming down to money,” Batch said over the wekend. “The Steelers would like him to come back, yes, but it’s not going to be at the $13 million number. I’m sure Aaron at some point - I have not spoken to him - but I’m sure his representatives are wanting something closer to 30.”

As of now Mason Rudolph and Will Howard are the only two quarterbacks on the roster.
