Report: Ashley Cole eyes shock move to hire Blues legend at Cesena after Chelsea rejection

Ashley Cole is still searching for an assistant manager at Cesena after taking over as manager earlier this month, and could now make a sensational move to hire Chelsea legend John Terry.

Cole made his first foray into the world of management this month, a surprise move into Italy’s second tier with Cesena. The Chelsea and England icon lost his first match, a 3-0 hammering against Mantova.

But Cole bounced back with an impressive 3-1 win over Catanzaro, having gone a goal down. During this, Cole has been attempting to raid Chelsea and appoint his assistant manager, namely Jack Mesure.

Should Chelsea have appointed John Terry as interim manager?

Would it have made more sense for Chelsea to hire John Terry as an interim manager until the end of the season?

Mesure, formerly a youth coach and U23 assistant manager at Chelsea, was targeted by Cole. However, according to Tutto Cesena, Chelsea have rejected Cole’s move to hire the current player loan manager.

The same report identifies two alternatives Cole and Cesena are now pursuing. With Mesure set to stay at Chelsea, despite Cesena’s attempts to get him out of the club through the FA, Cole has moved on.

Tutto Cesena claims Cole could now bring Terry to Italy’s second tier. The Chelsea legend is currently working part-time in Chelsea’s academy as a youth coach, but is clearly looking for a new opportunity.

Terry was disappointed that he was not asked to take on the interim role following Enzo Maresca’s axe, with Calum McFarlane taking on the honour of leading the Blues against Manchester City and Fulham.

He remains on the books at Chelsea but if an opportunity arises, Terry may go, and Cole could look to offer him that at Cesena. Terry has worked as an assistant at Aston Villa as well as Leicester City.

Alongside Terry, Cole also considering Man United legend

It’s not just Mesure and Terry that Cole is looking to appoint as assistant manager at Cesena, but a shock name is also on his radar. Manchester United icon Nemanja Vidic is also being considered by Cole.

SEMI-FINAL TWO: Maresca vs Terry!

That would be a surprise choice, given the two have never really worked or played together in any capacity. However, they have done battle on many occasions, playing against eachother on 15 occasions.

Vidic has not yet actually done any coaching with a club, but does boast a UEFA Pro Licence. Perhaps, Cole ends up giving one of his rival opponents during his playing career, the assistant role at Cesena.
