Chelsea and Liverpool both have the chance to bring in some new faces in the summer transfer window

Chelsea have lost their last four games on the spin in all competitions and pressure could start to grow on Liam Rosenior if results don’t show improvement in the near future. Liverpool, meanwhile, have underperformed by their standards this season and have failed to stay in the race to defender their Premier League title. It’s little surprise that both team are looking to the transfer market in search of ways to improve their squads.

Midfielders seem to be on the shopping lists of both clubs - and fresh reports suggest that one of the fastest-rising stars in French football could be a target for both sides when the transfer window reopens...

Chelsea and Liverpool eye AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara

Chelsea and Liverpool are both keen on AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to Caught Offside. Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest in the player who could cost up to £65million. His contract in Ligue 1 expires in June 2029 meaning he still has three years left to run down on his deal.

Camara, 22, could be seen by the Blues as someone to bolster their midfield department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park. In addition, he could provide some useful back-up to Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández - although he may also be required as a replacement for the latter given rumoured interest from Real Madrid in the Argentine.

If Rosenior lured Camara to Stamford Bridge, that could pave the way for Andrey Santos to head out the exit door, too. The Brazilian is facing an uncertain long-term future ahead of the summer. He has been linked with a departure in the next transfer window, another situation which would make Chelsea’s need for fresh blood more urgent.

As for Liverpool, they are well stocked up with options in Camara’s position but seem to want to find upgrades following a somewhat disappointing season for Alexis Mac Allister - while the Reds also have a decision to make about the future of Curtis Jones, who came close to a move to Inter Milan over the winter. Camara’s box-to-box style of play should mesh well with the system currently in use at Anfield.

Would Lamine Camara suit the Premier League amid links to Chelsea and Liverpool?

Camara is a Senegal international with 39 caps to his name so far in his career and plenty of experience under his belt at Ligue 1 level. At the age of 22, he has bags of potential and will only get better over the next few years and looks likely to prove a solid long-term investment for either Chelsea or Liverpool - or indeed any of the other sides who may be monitoring his progress.

The 5’8” midfielder started out with spells as a youngster at Galaxy FA, Casa Sports and Generation Foot before FC Metz came calling for his services in 2023. He initially broke into their B team before making the step up to the first-team shortly after, making an instant impression when he scored a stunning goal from the halfway line against future employers Monaco. He went on to make 37 appearances in all competitions and scored two goals before his move.

Monaco then swooped in for his signature in 2024 and he hasn’t looked back since. He has become one of their most prized assets and they may well face a real battle to keep hold of him now amid attention from elsewhere. He has made 64 outings, 25 of which have come this term, and he has found the net on two occasions as they chase down a place in the Champions League.
