Mikel Arteta reportedly wants to freshen up one of his attacking spots.
Mikel Arteta has some tough decisions ahead of him this summer, with an intriguing transfer window lying in wait. Arsenal will be looking to go into the summer on the back of winning the treble, and at the very least, on the back of winning the Premier League title.
The Gunners upgrades are not as obvious os in recent years, and it’s unlikely we will see many starters replaced. Gaps are likely to open up in the squad, with fringe players likely to be offered starting gigs elsewhere, and they will need to be replaced in that scenario.
But it’s unclear where Arsenal will choose to spend their money. If big decisions are to be made on upgrades, they will have to be ruthless ones, and one player who may be looking over his shoulder is Gabriel Martinelli.
The 24-year-old has impressed plenty during his time at the club, but he hasn’t been at his best last season or this season. This season has been more productive than the last, with the Brazilian scoring 11 and assisting four times, but there are questions over whether he is of the vest best quality, and that’s the stage Arsenal are at.
TeamTalk report that Arsenal are open to offers for Martinelli this summer, with Arteta viewing the wide positions as one of the areas he wants to freshen. It’s claimed the Gunners require the bidding to be started at £50million, and it will be interesting to see if that price tag is one other clubs see as reasonable.
Arsenal will certainly feel as though it is, especially given Martinelli is a proven Premier League commodity, and he is only 24 years of age, with plenty of development still to do.
The World Cup could also help Martinelli drum up a market for himself as he prepares to jet to North America with Brazil.
