Gabriel Jesus
Arsenal’s Gabriel JESUS #9 fights for the ball with Manchester United’s Leny Yoro #15 during a friendly football match at Sofi Stadium, , July 27, 2024 in Inglewood, California.
Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus is once again sending mixed signals about his future, as speculation around a summer exit continues to build.
In recent weeks, the 28-year-old has been linked with moves to Italy and a possible long-term return to Brazil. AC Milan have been mentioned as a serious contender, while Palmeiras remain emotionally tied to the player.
At the same time, reports suggest his preference is to stay in England if he leaves Arsenal. And ideally, he would even renew his current deal. Now, his latest comments only add to the confusion.
This season has followed a familiar pattern. Gabriel Jesus has played 21 matches in all competitions, starting seven. He has scored five goals and added one assist.
Injuries have again disrupted his rhythm. However, when available, he has still been useful for Mikel Arteta, especially in pressing and link-up play.
So yes, Arsenal have a player who contributes. But also one whose future feels increasingly unclear.
Gabriel Jesus sends emotional message
Speaking during the international break, as relayed by Globo Esporte, Gabriel Jesus made it clear that Palmeiras remains close to his heart.
“I manage to follow them a lot. That bond between me and Palmeiras was never broken. Whenever I’m in Brazil, I go there, especially when I’ve had injuries and treated them there.”
Then came the line that will raise eyebrows.
“Obviously I have the dream of returning one day to play, not to end my career. I think about going back every day – my wife can back that up.”
That is not exactly a subtle message.
Gabriel Jesus also reflected on his history with the club. He recalled Palmeiras’ struggles early in his career and how things quickly changed.
“I came up in 2014 with Palmeiras fighting not to go down. Then we won the Brazilian Cup and the league after 22 years. What they’ve built since then is history.”
Trying to keep every door open
Gabriel Jesus has now publicly stated he thinks about returning to Palmeiras every day. At the same time, other reports say he wants to stay in the Premier League. And ideally, renew with Arsenal. It is, to put it politely, a flexible approach.
For Arsenal, this creates a slightly awkward situation. The player is contributing when fit, but continues to speak openly about other possibilities.
Gabriel Jesus is not forcing a move. However, he is clearly not closing any doors either.
Arsenal still need to decide whether to offer a renewal. Meanwhile, interest from abroad remains, especially from Italy.
And in the background, Palmeiras continue to wait.
Right now, Gabriel Jesus seems happy to keep everyone interested. Whether that balance holds into the summer window is another question entirely.
