New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has shaved his head and will rock a new look in the 2026 NFL season.

Maye enjoyed a tremendous sophomore season with the Patriots. He led the franchise to the Super Bowl, tallying a 14-3 record before ripping through the playoffs until New England came up against the Seattle Seahawks in Santa Clara.

Across the regular season, Maye finished the year with 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. He also compiled the league's leading completion rate (72.0 percent), becoming the youngest player ever to do so, and led the league in passer rating (113.5) en route to finishing second in MVP voting.

It was a successful year, but on Tuesday, ahead of his third season, Maye decided to make a change. The Patriots signal-caller has drastically switched up his look, committing to a new hairstyle for a good cause.

Maye and his wife, Ann Michael, were involved in the festivities at Granite Telecommunications’ annual “Saving by Shaving” event in Quincy, where she helped shave the quarterback’s head to raise money for charity. The fundraiser is expected to raise more than $3.5 million to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital, which will support pediatric research and treatment.

It’s a mission that resonates with Maye and his wife, who recently tied the knot. The couple said working with young patients has had a profound impact on both their lives, and they also announced the launch of the “MayeDay Family Foundation” — a new nonprofit focused on supporting children and families in need.

“It’s such a cool experience to be able to shine a positive light and to be there for them and help in any way we can,” Maye said. “There are times I’ve been with Boston Children’s Hospital patients, and it’s pretty cool... To do anything I can to try to put a smile on their face.”

Ann Michael added: “It’s obviously more than just football. There are so many great people and things here. We wanted to get more plugged in. Being from North Carolina, it’s so different here for us, so we wanted to start by giving back to the community and Boston Children’s.”

Maye was all smiles as he showed off his buzzcut. Fans were impressed with the move, too.

“The league ain’t ready for Drake Maye and his shaved head, aura +100,” wrote one fan. Another said the Patriots could use his hair for science, writing: “Quick, somebody steal the clipping and clone him.”

Others heaped praise on Maye and his wife. One posted, “Huge respect for him and Ann Michael,” while another user wrote: “We’re so blessed to have this guy and his wife.” “I can’t love Drake and Ann Michael enough,” added one more.

Some compared Maye’s hair to Tom Brady, who also shaved his head at the “Saving by Shaving” event following a Super Bowl loss in February 2018. Brady went on to have another MVP-caliber season, leading the Patriots to glory in Super Bowl LIII coming off the shaving.

Patriots fans will hope that Maye can replicate Brady’s exploits. New England faces a difficult first-place schedule in 2026, and the young team will have to get used to being the hunted rather than the hunter.
