Cowboys’ Superstar May Skip Off-Season Program In Shocking Report

The Dallas Cowboys are going into the 2026 season doing whatever it takes to make the playoffs. Back to back seven win seasons with one of the highest paid offenses in the NFL has made their fans uneasy, to say the least.

Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Javonte Williams account for a massive amount of the cap space. However, this off-season was largely focused on the defense. That being said, one of their highest paid stars may not report for off-season workouts.

Dallas Cowboys’ Superstar May Not Report For Off-Season Workouts

Coach Brian Schottenheimer has no assurances that franchise-tagged wide receiver George Pickens will attend the Dallas Cowboys’ offseason program. Their first workouts begin in just a couple of weeks:

“And I haven’t pushed that on him,” Schottenheimer said from the NFL meetings in Phoenix. “I mean, again, we’re all going through the process. It’s almost April. We’re still a couple weeks away. It’s going to play out the way it plays out. Again, it’s all voluntary. We’ll see where it goes.”

The Cowboys have not had discussions with Pickens’ representatives regarding a multiyear deal after placing the $27.3 million tag on the receiver.

Since the Cowboys did not place the exclusive tag on Pickens, he can still be signed as a free agent with a team agreeing to give up two first-round picks or another deal that would be amenable to the Cowboys.

Pickens had a carer year in 2025 with CeeDee Lamb missing extended time due to injury. He finished with career highs in targets (137), receptions (93), receiving yards (1,429), and touchdowns (9).

Why Wouldn’t Pickens Report For Off-Season Workouts?

There is a tendency for franchise-tagged players to skip or limit voluntary workouts and even OTAs and minicamps. Their performance for the upcoming season won’t impact their pay as it is fully guaranteed. However, showing up does bode well for a long-term deal as it shows the team you are committed.

That being said, often times these players will use private workouts with trainers to stay in shape while they wait for a contract.
