Jules Kounde
Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool could battle for Barcelona’s Jules Koundé in the summer.
The France international has been a regular since joining the La Liga winners from Sevilla in July 2022.
Manchester City had shown interest in him while he was at Sevilla, and he snubbed Chelsea to join Barca. At that time, the Andalusian club had confirmed the Blues’ offer.
Both Pep Guardiola’s side and the Club World Cup winners are back in for Koundé, along with Liverpool.
Since moving to the Camp Nou, he mainly operates as a right-back and has played 181 matches, of which 3,008 minutes are from 40 matches this season.
His La Liga stats per game this season are as follows:
Interceptions: 1.0
Tackles: 1.7
Possession won (final third): 0.2
Ball recovered: 2.9
Clearances: 1.9
Blocked shots: 0.4
Duels won: 4.6
Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool keen
Two months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Liam Rosenior’s side and Liverpool want to sign Jules Koundé in the summer.
He’s on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Arne Slot’s side as his suitors. Both the player and Barcelona would consider a transfer if there’s a ‘substantial offer’.
Barca has information of several top clubs’ being interested in the Frenchman, and the Premier League trio are named.
The newspaper points out his performances have dropped when compared to last season and he’s been inconsistent this season. He has been on the sidelines for close to a month due to a muscle injury.
Hansi Flick’s side want to retain him but they can’t, and won’t, ignore a substantial offer, considering their financial situation.
Last August, the 27-year-old signed a new contract [with raise] until 2030, and Barcelona won’t offer him another raise. Therefore, the Spanish giants are open to a sale if there’s a convincing offer.
Recent claims have stated Liverpool are considering offering €80m. Mundo points that out and report that if this offer is submitted, Barcelona would ‘find it difficult to refuse an offer of that magnitude’.
With both Barca and Koundé open to considering offers, it’s now down to Manchester City, Chelsea or Liverpool to convert their interest into bids. In short, these clubs can convince the La Liga side by offering around €80m in the summer.
Contract, value and agent info
Jules Koundé will have four years left on his contract after this season and Transfermarkt value him at €65m.
Excellence Sport Nation, headed by Jonathan Kebe and Jeremy Ramalingam, manage the Barcelona player. Their client list includes Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo, Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni, AS Roma’s Manu Koné and several others.
