Arsenal target Ederson, Brazilian midfielder playing for Atalanta
Atlético Madrid fear competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Atalanta’s Éderson.
The Brazil international could be on the move in the summer and Arsenal have been pulled into the mix.
He joined the Serie A side from Salernitana in 2022 and has been a regular for them since then. The player was a key part of La Dea squad that won the Europa League during the 2023/24 season.
This season, Éderson played 2,502 minutes from 33 matches, managing two goals and an assist.
His Serie A stats are as follows:
Appearances: 23
Starts: 20
Total minutes: 1,688
Minutes per game: 73
Tackles per game: 2.0
Ball recovered per game: 4.4
Duels won per game: 4.4
Arsenal transfer threat for Atlético
The La Liga side have long been keen on signing Éderson and have already made a firm attempt for the next window.
That’s according to Wednesday’s edition of Marca, who mention Arsenal in a report on Los Rojiblancos. Their title states: ‘Atlético Madrid’s ‘Anti-Premier League’ Offensive for Éderson’.
A few days ago, Los Rojiblancos sporting director Mateu Alemany made a trip to Italy for a meeting with Atalanta president Antonio Percassi. The meeting was to accelerate talks and try and secure an agreement for the 26-year-old’s transfer to the Spanish club.
Diego Simeone’s side aren’t willing to offer more than €35m plus €5m bonuses while La Dea are demanding €50m. Despite the difference, the former are pushing to secure his services.
On March 13th, Sport Witness relayed news Manchester United will battle with Atlético for Éderson. The source reported his starting price as €30m, €20m less than quoted by Marca.
The newspaper makes no mention of any other English club apart from the Gunners. Alemany travelled to Italy due the ‘Premier League threat’.
He decided to act to prevent interference from clubs like Mikel Arteta’s side, who have better financial muscle than Atlético. The South American earns €4-5m per year and it should be affordable for both Arsenal and Simeone’s side.
Andrea Berta the obvious link
Andrea Berta is currently working in a sports direction role for Arsenal, and prior to that he was well established at Atlético Madrid. Los Rojiblancos’ worry may therefore be founded in knowing Berta likes the player.
Éderson’s contract expires in 2027, meaning the next window will be Atalanta’s last big chance to collect a good fee. His value, as per Transfermarkt, is €40m, and he’s represented by André Cury.
Last November, the agent mentioned that €30-40m may be enough, and his client’s sale may be concluded in this region. At the lower end of that estimate, the transfer looks very good value for money.
