Arsenal U21s are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they face West Bromwich Albion at home in their penultimate game of the regular season.
With Arsenal’s place in the main end of season playoffs yet to be finalised, there is still much to play for in the remainder of the campaign.
Youngsters at Arsenal are always looking to impress but they may have additional cause to do so over the next few weeks as they look to stake their claim for involvement with the senior squad in pre-season.
The news that Viktor Gyokeres’ Sweden will be at the World Cup (along with Kai Havertz’s Germany), for instance, means that recent signing Evan Mooney could be involved with the senior squad in pre-season, with Andre Harriman-Annous also in contention.
Furthermore, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi are set to be at the tournament with England and Spain respectively, which could open up a place for Ife Ibrahim to act as the deputy to Christian Norgaard in pre-season.
There are likely to be other openings too, perhaps at right-back if Jurrien Timber and Ben White are at the tournament, with Jaden Dixon a potential beneficiary.
Others pushing for involvement with the first-team could include the likes of Marli Salmon, Brayden Clarke, Theo Julienne, Demiane Agustien and Brando Bailey-Joseph, with goalkeeper Khari Ranson perhaps another option.
It is too early to draw definitive conclusions regarding which youngsters could be involved and Arsenal’s pre-season plans have yet to even be announced other than a friendly against Real Betis.
However, possible involvement with the first-team this summer is likely to give the Arsenal youngsters something extra to play for.
