Former NFL Star Wants To Return To The League Despite Missing Some Fingers
Pierre-Paul is interested in returning to the New York Giants for one last time.
Following a year away from the NFL, Pierre-Paul returned to play three games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. Now 37, he is vying for a second chance in New York:
The pass-rusher pitched himself to the Giants in a social media post on Tuesday.
“@nygiants I’m still available and ready to take on some OT’s and dominate in run-stop football the GIANTS WAY,” Pierre-Paul wrote. “Let’s make it happen, Giant Fans, Giant Nation. Let’s go!! I know I know I know.”
Sixteen years ago, the Giants drafted Pierre-Paul with the No. 15 pick. He notched 16.5 sacks as an All-Pro in 2011 before leading New York to a Super Bowl title.
JPP compiled 58.5 sacks in eight seasons with the Giants, putting him 10th on the franchise’s all-time leaderboard. He tallied 432 tackles, seven fumbled recoveries, and returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns.
The former South Florida standout missed half of the 2015 season after suffering a serious hand injury in a fireworks incident on July 4. He recovered and spent two more years with the Giants before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he notched 30.5 sacks from 2018 to 2020 and won another Super Bowl.
Pierre-Paul was once one of the most feared pass rushers in the NFL. Giving him one more chance could not only be a low risk high reward type of move, but the fan base would love it.
